Hape Continues the Push Towards a Greener World
On the eve of Tree-planting Day, a team consisting of 13 Hape volunteers gathered to plant a total of 18 new ginkgo trees in a park near Beilun High School. They did so not only celebrate the special day but also to give back to the environment that has provided us with so much.
From conserving water and energy to reducing waste and promoting recycling, Hape volunteers never stop pushing towards a more sustainable future and, in fact, everyone in the Hape family is encouraged to join together to celebrate Tree-planting Day and to help beautify the neighbourhoods and provide access to better green-spaces for local residents.
For decades, Hape’s product design and material selection during the manufacturing and packaging process has strictly followed the “minimum ecological cost” principle. As early as in the design stage, Hape toys are sternly assessed on the viability of their safe and ecological disposal after usage. Adopting simple structures designed to maximise functionality, incorporating interactive open-ended features and streamlining packaging concepts are just a few of the measures that we’ve taken to this end. We also keep an eye on the supply chain and put extremely strict standards on material admittance and re-inspection. Meanwhile, we actively explore environmentally-friendly new materials, introducing Green PE, which is made from sustainable sugar cane, rice-based materials and FASAL, which is synthesised from wood powder, to our products. These upgraded plastics come with fine physical properties, zero toxins and are safe for use amongst children. In addition, Hape runs its own solar power system in order to save energy. 240,000kwh of green power is generated per year by the solar power generator unit with a capacity of 100kw that supports Hape’s daily production and office illumination. The surplus green energy can be transmitted to State Grid Corporation.
Originally stemming from wooden toys, Hape has attached great importance to the protection of forests and nature conservation since its inception, and sustainability has been part of the fabric of Hape for well over three decades. We strongly believe that we not only benefit from trees, but also depend on them, and this Tree-planting activity once again proves our long-term commitment towards pushing forward to a greener world. In the future, we will begin an alliance with more social communities, and we will be planting – or sponsoring the planting of – more and more trees as we continue to create a greener world for the next generation.
